Business Decision-Making and Analysis

Unit Description

This unit explores the theories and principles of strategic decision making. Over the duration of this unit, you will learn how to strategically analyse a challenge, developing awareness and competency in making thorough, insightful, effective, creative, and ethical strategic and key operational decisions in line with organisational resources and capabilities.

Prerequisites

To enter into this unit, students must first have completed:

  • Leading, Managing, and Developing People
  • Managing Financial Resources
  • Managing Operational Improvement
  • Marketing for Managers

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the key phases of strategic and operational decision-making processes and assess the effectiveness of decision-making within an organisation
  • Identify and apply appropriate rational, quantitative, qualitative, intuitive and creative approaches to making ethical strategic decisions
  • Recognise the different forms of bias that can inhibit effective decision-making and ways that they may be overcome
  • Act independently or collaboratively as a member of a decision-making group in the process of making business decisions
  • Apply a systems or holistic perspective to the development and implementation of business decisions within an organisation
  • Demonstrate a high order of skill in analysis, critical thinking, communication, and professional application
  • Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in the application of knowledge and skills to new situations, to resolve problems, and to think rigorously and independently

Assessment Tasks

The successful completion of Business Decision-Making and Analysis relies on the submission of three assessments:

  • Assessment Task 1: Report on Your Organisation’s Decision-Making Process (35%)
  • Assessment Task 2: Apply Decision Analysis Techniques (50%)
  • Assessment Task 3: Engagement and Participation (15%)
